Vans Warped Tour: Hawthorne Heights, Punk Rock Bands And Compilation CDs

Over the past few decades the punk rock and indie music scene has become increasingly at the forefront of youth culture, not just in America, but around the globe. In 1995 Vans shoes, purveyors of merchandise primarily for skating, approached Kevin Lyman, a Lollapolooza Music Festival veteran, and asked to partner in a annual national punk lifestyle tour.
This is how the Vans Warped Tour was born.
Since 1995, Vans Warped Tour has enjoyed the status as one of the most successful and longest running touring festival. Warped Tour now features well over a hundred different bands performing on multiple stages, as well as including a half-pipe for skaters and bikers. Bands and merchants set up tents across the festival grounds, which typically is little more than a public park or parking lot.
While Warped Tour features a number of big name bands (past acts have included Blink 182 and Social Distortion), the festival also provides up and coming indie punk rock bands with a venue they may not otherwise be able to access. The booths and tents allow these bands to interact with their potential fan base in addition to the time they are allotted to perform on stage.
Besides including the music and the lifestyle events, Warped Tour is famous for its stance on the environment, a policy they refer to as "Warped Eco Initiatives." Warped Tour will be providing bio-diesel fuel for the tour buses, eco-friendly catering for the bands, and solar powered sound systems. 2007 will be the first year the tour partners with Phillipe Cousteau's Earth Echo International environmental awareness group.
With the help of its numerous sponsors, not the least of which is Vans, Warped Tour is able to keep its ticket prices relatively low. 2007 Warped Tour tickets are available for $26.75 and $15.25.
Due to the punk/anarchist bent of many of the bands playing Warped Tour, a certain amount of criticism and conflict have arisen over the years. Some bands take issue with the corporate sponsorship and the festival atmosphere. These bands believe that both make a giant spectacle of a music scene that was initiated in small clubs as an underground movement. Occasionally bands have been in verbal or physical conflict with each other, and many of the attendees are often involved in mosh pits and crowd-surfing, prompting the tour to include medical service.
2007 marks the 13th consecutive year for Warped Tour, making it the longest running touring music festival in the United States. The "Lucky 13" year kicks off at the Pomona Fairgrounds in Pomona, Calif., on June 29th before crossing the country. Stops along the way include major cities in nearly every state across the Southwest, New England, the East Coast, the Midwest, two stops in Canada, and the West Coast. Previous years have also included international tour dates in Europe and Australia. Some of the acts included in the 2007 Vans Warped Tour compilation include Bad Religion, Coheed and Cambria, New Found Glory, Alkaline Trio, Hawthorne Heights, Pennywise, Funeral for a Friend, Circa Survive, Killswitch Engage, and Underoath, among many others.
